Hi Robert, apologies for taking you 2yrs back.. I need to understand how or what you use to delay your audio tracks to ambience mics.
how do you now patch your physical cue/solo wedge?
Fantastic video Robert! I got pretty much most of what I needed for my last minute show
So nice to have a deep insight into sound aspects of a major band tour. Thanks for making it and for sharing. Super
My pleasure -- thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing ❤️👌
Great Video, I am learning tonnes from your videos. Thank you
U TAKE A LONG BORING WAY TO EXPLAIN SIMPLE THINGS AN MAKE THEM MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT REALLY IS
live mix is a great sounding iem system!
How do you link 2 channels like for example to make it a stereo link if I have a stereo keyboard? Thanks!
S6L does not currently offer “channel linking” - but - you can take any 2 channels and create a “stereo” channel. Attention any two channels, right click on the second channel attentioned and select “make channels stereo”
@@RobertScovill thanks a bunch! Will try that

Just stumbled across your channel. I was at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion concert. It was very interesting to see another perspective. Enjoy your videos.
wow this is the one where I won Jays headphones🥳. Thank you Robert and K J sir. those sessions during covid helped a lot
This is really nice! Thanks KJ and Robert for taking out time!
hey robert, your concept of remote mixing a live show from a remote studio was done in 1996 by bob lentini mixed from his studio in las vegas NV to a show in nashville TN using a 28.8kbps global village teleport platinum modem. just sayin…
Was at this one! Had know idea it would be the last time. It was my 5th time .
Thank you
Wow thank you.......
I'm going on tour in a couple of months and they have wo of these for FOH and monitors. Personally I've never used one so these videos are helping me to get a minimum of knowledge. Thank you very much for posting.
Maybe I missed it, but I can figure out how to make a aux/grp/mtx stereo instead of mono?
Very simple - put the console in CONFIG mode - “attention” any two (or more) inputs or outputs. Right click any of the attentioned channels and select make stereo.
If you’re on version 6.5 or later you can “attention” channels, then select “make stereo” in the right TFT screen.
Okay, at the delaying to vocal section. I'm on the dlive and it doesn't have buss to buss routing as of march 2022. so what I do is route my band to groups and the groups to the main l/r buss and that buss goes to the matrix that is feeding the pa. and then my vocals run to a group and from the group to the main matrix. I went through and delayed the vocal group to the band main l/r because the band takes longer. so if I were to play around with the acoustic delay (drum bleed into main vocals) would it be better to do it at the group level like you were saying or delay the main l/r buss because that is where the band sums. Thanks :) I'll try either way but on the dlive I can't type the delay in, i have to spin the encoder for hours on end to get to the number I want. 😂
If that console does not offer ADC, I would suggest doing all insert alignments BEFORE implementing any group delays targeted at latency offsets or microphone delays targeted at propagation offsets. As for delaying music to the vocal bleed I would definitely do that after your latency alignments -- I have done just the drums and I have done all music back to the vocal bleed -- but a word of caution here; you have to pay attention to where the singer is getting his timing cues i.e from close mics in his ears or from the bleed into his mic or is he on wedges? If it's the bleed or wedges and he plays an instrument, you'll have way more success with it. It's a matter of picking the better of the two evils and is a balance of compromises regardless. Choose wisely ... 🙂
@@RobertScovill it does not, not even with their own dyn8. but I went through my I/o with smaart and made sure everything was hitting my pa/sub matrix at the same time. I work at a church without a drum shield, which is fine, and for the most part the main worship leader stays parked in front of the drums. So I was curious how that would sound with the drums/band delayed to the vocal mics. Being I have my routing, band groups to main l/r, would the acoustic delay work better at the main l/r or at the groups. However drums are upstage left. Would it be better to align to vocal mic down stage right since that would be the furthest (they all take turns leading) or to whichever has the most bleed. I’m leaning towards most bleed. Thanks 😊 also, have to figure out a way to get overheads lined up. Have to find a speaker and mount it into a snare. Right now it’s the cable method to lug closest to kick. I tried pink noise from an iPad but the volume wasn’t loud enough to get a solid trace.
@@micahmuth4256If you have a "music group" I would do the alignment there. I would pick an alignment point where the bleed is the worst / most destructive. You'll just have to judge how well it is actually working. Put a keen ear on what it might be doing to the groove of the performance vs. the improvement in overall phase. Be careful.
Yes! I was having some trouble with my ducker settings. Thanks!
Always here to help! Hahaha!
🔥🔥🔥
Interesting! Thank you!
Robert, with all of your experience, knowledge, technical skills, teaching ability and your ears, you have to be the most humble down to earth guy I've ever watched and listened to. It seems to me there are a few sound engineers out there that have a totally different attitude than you do. When they reach a certain level they seem to develop a chip on their shoulder along with a huge ego. Almost above teaching and helping others learn the craft but not you sir. I've never met you in person but watching your videos it's so apparent that you 110% enjoy giving back and sharing with everyone and to me, that puts you in a league of your own. So inspiring to watch!!
Chris - thank you so much for this very kind response. It makes it all worth while. 😉

Hey Robert, Been really enjoying your videos. Thanks to you and Chris Madden I really want to do a gig on a S6L now. Any chance of a video of you taking through your Tom Petty show file and maybe mics and outboard you used as well. Cheers

Nice video, Robert! I just happen to watch and see an Alan Wellman sighting at 5:23!!! RIP, AW...
Yes indeed. That was the last time I interacted with him.
Great video! Where are you measuring from on Smaart?
A mono matrix carry’s the pink noise from a channel as a reference, a second mono matrix carries the LR bus as the measure.
Such good info right there! Especially the part about the snapshot strategy at the end there. I think it could be a cool Lab (or part of a Lab) topic

As usual Robert, thanks.
Thank you Derek --
@@RobertScovill The pleasure is all mine. I think you really have to drill it home to people, especially people at my level (clubs etc), that they simply cannot go thinking they can Parallel process especially on entry level digital desks that don't have their busses phased aligned. I've seen it tried so often (guilty).
@@derekrushe yeah I hear ya. You CAN do it on the smaller consoles, it just eats up a lot of resources to do it and a lot of time ends up not being worth it.
Super excited to be back 🥳 learnt so much from all previous episodes. Thank you so much for The Lab
Thank you!
hello a question the submaster are the aux
If I understand your question correctly, no -- a submaster is an audio subgroup, not an aux.
@@RobertScovill thanks
@@RobertScovill if understand Ok the sub masters are the sub groups \ correct
@Robert Scovill I’m having a challenge especially on the offline editor for instance, I’m trying assign kick, snare or Toms subgroup to a Drum sub master. Should it be done on the console?
